About bE-Responsible
Saahas in partnership with Environmental Synergies in Development (ENSYDE) both NGOs, is implementing the initiative on responsible e-waste collection and awareness within households and institutions in Bangalore. ENSYDE manages outreach and sensitization, while Saahas implements collection and logistics.
In the past year and a half we have reached out to over 800 institutions and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Bangalore to participate in this programme. We also have a tie up with a Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) authorised recycler to ensure that the e-waste collected is managed in a socially and environmentally responsible way.
The Impact
We keep a close eye on the numbers generated by our on-ground implementation efforts and also the total e-waste collected.

Way Forward
In the long run, the objective of this initiative is to establish a collection network for non-bulk e-waste with sufficient aggregated volumes so that the recyclers take up regular collection on their own, making it self sustaining in the long run.

bE-Responsible initiative is addressing a critical gap in waste management, i.e. collection and disposal of non-bulk e-waste. Increased consumerism in addition to higher rate of obsolescence makes it imperative to make people aware and provide suitable options for responsible disposal. Consumer responsibility is key to reducing the problem of waste in our country.

Bengaluru is the 3rd largest e-waste generator in the country (92,000 MT/y in 2017), and it is only appropriate that our program is focused on this city. Currently addressing select wards in Bengaluru, the bE-Responsible initiative aims to cover the whole city in a few years. A first-of-its-kind, our e-waste drop boxes provide easy disposal options to every individual. With the current participation of Resident Welfare Association (RWAs), community groups, civic society, clubs, schools, colleges, corporate volunteers, etc., and proposed collaboration with Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and KSPCB, we hope to enhance and sustain the initiative.
